The Asia Foundation Development Fellows 2026: A Gateway for Emerging Leaders in Asia-Pacific

The Asia Foundation Development Fellows program is back for 2026, offering a transformative leadership journey for exceptional individuals under 40 across Asia and the Pacific. Designed to strengthen leadership capacity, expand networks, and deepen understanding of regional development challenges, the program reflects The Asia Foundation’s seven decades of investment in nurturing the region’s next generation of leaders.

Program Highlights

1. Leadership Training & Study Tour – Korea (April 19–25, 2026)

Fellows begin their journey with a week-long intensive program in Korea. The experience blends leadership training with practical insights through:

• Executive coaching and interactive leadership modules
• Site visits with development practitioners, policy leaders, and innovators
• Short assignments and workshops focused on wellness, problem-solving, and decision-making

The immersive setting allows fellows to connect regional challenges with practical approaches to change.

2. Leadership Dialogue & Exchange – United States (Sept 28–Oct 7, 2026)

The fellowship continues in the United States with deeper engagement on leadership and global perspectives. Fellows will:

• Strengthen bonds with their cohort
• Participate in policy dialogues and leadership development sessions
• Expand international networks and collaborations

This component complements the Asia-Pacific training by situating fellows in a global policy and development context.

3. Professional Development Award

Each fellow receives up to USD 2,500 to pursue tailored growth opportunities. This could include specialized training, language study, attending regional forums, or other enrichment activities aligned with career aspirations.

4. Executive Coaching & Mentoring

Fellows benefit from one-on-one coaching and mentorship, tailored to their background and interests. This personalized guidance helps them navigate challenges, sharpen their vision, and drive long-term impact in their respective fields.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Be under 40 by January 1, 2026
• Have demonstrable achievements in The Asia Foundation’s focus areas: governance, economic development, women’s empowerment, environmental resilience, education and leadership, or international cooperation
• Be citizens of eligible countries in Asia and the Pacific
• Demonstrate leadership potential and community impact
• Be fluent in English and available for all program components

Selection Process & Timeline

The fellowship is highly competitive. Applications will be reviewed by Asia Foundation staff and a regional selection committee.

• Applications Open: September 23, 2025
• Deadline: November 10, 2025 (11:59 pm EST)
• Review: November 2025 – January 2026
• Final Selection: January – February 2026
